THE PROBLEM
The world is transitioning to clean energy and electrifying home heating, yet the Ontario government and Enbridge Gas want to keep us reliant on gas. Enbridge is aggressively expanding its "natural" gas infrastructure across the province, misleading residents by claiming that gas is the cheapest way to heat their homes when it’s not.
The interests of Enbridge are being served at the expense of the public good, burdening Ontarians with unnecessary costs and hindering the shift to more sustainable energy solutions like heat pumps.
THE SOLUTION
We need to stop the expansion of gas infrastructure and challenge the Ontario government and Enbridge Gas. Stopping the construction of natural gas infrastructure in new communities and homes is crucial. The current approach will force millions of current ratepayers to subsidize these expansions while burdening future homeowners to undertake retrofitting expenses when they eventually ditch natural gas and transition to electric heating.
Switching home heating to electric heat pumps is the right move because they are more environmentally sustainable and cost-effective over time. By embracing heat pumps and phasing out natural gas, we can contribute to a cleaner, healthier planet for generations to come.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
We need to stop building new natural gas infrastructure for heating homes and hold the Ontario government and Enbridge Gas accountable. New homes must be built with decarbonization in mind, both to limit their contributions to climate change and to save homeowners the future costs of retrofitting their homes.
