Strong Towns and Cities
Why growing smarter is good for you, the economy and our environment
As our population grows, where and how we build housing will affect our economy, jobs, traffic and municipal debt. For too long, urban sprawl and gridlock in the Greater Golden Horseshoe (GGH) have been out of control threatening the region’s economy, quality of life, water and food sources.
We need to grow in smarter ways to create walkable, transit-friendly communities – places more of us actually want to live, which are better for taxpayers’ wallets, municipal finances and our environment.
The goal of this report is to provide citizens with the knowledge needed to understand how complete, sustainable communities can be created and to help citizens engage productively with their communities and with their municipal elected officials.
