People power WORKED! There will be NO jets on our waterfront.
Federal leaders grounded the proposal to allow jets at the Toronto Island Airport following massive public opposition. This is a major win for community power and democratic participation.
We applaud the federal government for making the right decision — but the work isn't over. Expanding the Island Airport for jets will always be a terrible idea. To neutralize the threat, Transport Canada must fill empty Toronto Port Authority board seats with people who oppose jets and any changes that would threaten our waterfront, parks, environment, and communities. Ontario must also return all expropriated waterfront and Toronto Island lands to the City of Toronto.
What's at Risk
Damage to the Waterfront
Increased Air, Noise and Water Pollution
Thousands of New Homes Cancelled
Traffic Congestion and Gridlock
Take Action
We must remain vigilant. Send a letter to your MP or pick up a lawn sign to keep the pressure on. We can keep our waterfront a place for people, parks and wildlife — not jets.
