Here at Blue Flag we love to celebrate all the joys that Canada’s shorelines have to offer. That’s why we hold our annual summer photo contest, ‘Life’s a Beach’, so you can show us your own slice of beach bliss across Canada!
Choosing winners this year was as difficult as ever. With over 250 entries in our Instagram competition, we were spoiled for choice. If you’d like to see all the entries, simply follow the hashtag #blueflagphotocontest, or visit our page at @envirodefence and you’ll see just how difficult our job of choosing only three really was.
Life’s a Beach photo contest 3rd place winner – Tiffany Orpana\
This year’s third place photo was taken by Tiffany Orpana. Congratulations Tiffany! We loved this photo because it represented a look at freshwater beaches and pays homage to Canada’s rich canoeing history. Great photo! Tiffany has won a $50 gift card to Henry’s photography and a Blue Flag swag bag also valued at over $50.
Tiffany told us: “This picture was taken on the shores of the Ottawa River at Lemure Beach in the town of Deep River, Ontario. I loved the picture because as I sat watching the incoming storm, these unique canoes left me nostalgic for a simpler time on these waters. Today boating recreation is popular on the Ottawa River. However thousands of years ago canoes like these would have been the primary form of transportation, treasured by people paddling these waters.”
Life’s a Beach photo contest 2nd place winner: Tara Lowry
In second place, we have a photo of low tide at White Rock Beach taken by Tara Lowry. Congratulations Tara! We love this photo because it is so visually interesting and, in a way, an abstract look at a beach. We thought this photo was artistically brilliant and the scale of people exploring low tide gave a unique perspective. The second place prize is a $75 gift card to Henry’s photography and a Blue Flag swag bag valued at over $50!
Life’s A Beach photo contest – 1st place winner: Dianne Craswell
Drum roll please… In 1st place we have this brilliant photo taken by Dianne Craswell. This photo exemplifies everything Blue Flag is all about – healthy natural beaches where you can bring your family for a truly wonderful experience. The healthy dune system in this photo, along with the contrast of the blue sky and dark blue water made the photo really stand out. The kite with a Canadian flag always sparks a sense of joy and pride as well. Great job Dianne! You’ve won a Fujifilm Instax Square SQ6, a $100 Gift Card to Henry’s Photography and a Blue Flag swag bag valued at over $50!
Dianne told us: “Our family loves going on “adventures”. We are always up for exploring, especially when we go camping in our travel trailer. This particular trip was no exception. We were on vacation in Cavendish, Prince Edward Island. We had been to Cavendish Beach the night before as the sun was setting. It was beautiful! So the next day we thought we’d take a kite and head to the beach when it was a bit quieter in the evening for some family fun. Of course, I almost always have my camera with me when we go somewhere! The lighting was beautiful and we sailed that kite until the sun had almost completely disappeared over the horizon.”
