As part of a full suite of climate policies, carbon pricing can make a meaningful contribution to Canada’s efforts to meet and exceed international climate commitments. Given that there remains a gap between what the pan-Canadian framework on climate change can deliver and Canada’s 2030 GHG-reduction target, we encourage the federal government to strive for the greatest ambition in the implementation of the policy, and to avoid exempting or weakening the carbon price signal in the absence of strong and compelling evidence to do so.
