About The Submission:
This submission provides feedback to the Competition Bureau’s for its consultation on guidelines for implementing the Competition Act’s new greenwashing provisions. Environmental Defence Canada applauds the improvements through Bill C-59 and the attention given to greenwashing issues. EDC supports stricter enforcement, calling for mandatory penalties, credible data verification, and oversight of key sectors like fossil fuels and plastics. Companies must back their environmental claims with evidence and ensure future pledges are accompanied by solid plans. EDC urges the government to close loopholes and prevent misleading claims, ensuring consumers are informed and climate action remains a priority.
