About The Submission:

The Government of Canada is considering a new investment tax credit for hydrogen. Environmental Defence Canada recognizes that renewable hydrogen technology may help Canada meet its climate commitments. However, the tax credit should not be used to support fossil-hydrogen technology. This would undermine the government's commitment to end fossil fuel subsidies and Canada's climate commitments. To the extent that any public resources are made available for hydrogen development, it should be reserved for renewable hydrogen for the hardest-to-decarbonize sectors where direct electrification is not an option.
