About The Submission:
Canada’s much-anticipated Assessment Framework for Fossil Fuel Subsidies has the potential to set an example for the rest of the world – if the framework delivers the highest possible ambition.
Over 100 environmental, health, human rights and civil society organizations across Canada and around the world urge the federal government to ensure that the following items are included in the framework:
1. A robust definition of fossil fuel subsidies
2. Subsidies to be included in the review: tax measures analyzed by the Parliamentary Budget Office, and measures identified in the inventory of supports for fossil fuels complied by the OECD
3. Aligning ‘efficiency’ assessment with Canada’s climate commitments
