Although the release of the draft regulation is a significant step in Canada’s effort to limit and reduce pollution from the oil and gas sector, there are some concerning elements proposed. Environmental Defence makes recommendations on the following elements to strengthen the oil and gas sector greenhouse gas emissions cap:
• Target and Level of Ambition
• Trajectory
• Compliance Flexibility Mechanisms
• Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcomes
• New Facility Compliance
