About The Backgrounder:
PFAS, also known as “forever chemicals”, contaminate our water, soils, air and food, harming our planet, people, and species. These chemicals are used in over 200 product categories, and many industrial processes, resulting in widespread contamination. In Canada, the cost to human health resulting from PFAS exposure is estimated to be upwards of $9 billion per year.
The manufacturing and technical attributes of PFAS are heavily outweighed by the high cost borne by people and our planet. Yet, the chemical industry continues to push back against necessary regulatory action. Fortunately, many companies are demonstrating that PFAS-free products and manufacturing are possible. We need the federal government to resist the chemical industry’s attack on PFAS regulation and act quickly protect human and environmental health.
