About The Submission:
Environmental Defence supports the phasing out of coal use in Ontario. However, we believe the Alternative Fuels regulation creates the potential for simply replacing one problematic fuel with others. We are not supportive of a regulation that allows for trade-offs that increase environmental loading of hazardous materials in exchange for green house gas reductions.
The amendments proposed would also weaken the monitoring and reporting of toxic emissions and would reduce public consultation before approval of new uses for alternative fuels. For these reasons we do not support the amendments.
