About the letter:
Environmental Defence with 38 other organizations, submitted a letter to Minister Guilbeault urging him to require a federal environmental assessment for the Pathways Alliance’s proposed CO₂ Transportation Network and Storage Hub. This massive carbon capture and storage (CCS) project, planned for Alberta’s oil sands, poses significant risks to health, water, air quality, and Indigenous rights. Despite these concerns, Alberta has refused to conduct an environmental review, and Pathways Alliance is pushing for federal approval without proper scrutiny. Given the billions in public funding at stake, the letter emphasizes the need for due diligence to protect communities and the environment.
