A cover of A Taxonomy of Sustainable Finance in Canada

About The Backgrounder:

In 2021, the Canadian government established the Sustainable Finance Action Council (SFAC) to propose parameters for a taxonomy defining projects aligning with net-zero emissions by 2050, aiming to prevent greenwashing and mobilize private investments in line with climate commitments. An interim report highlighted coal, new oil fields, and emission-heavy industrial projects as ineligible for sustainability labels.

This backgrounder addresses what a taxonomy is, what Canada is doing and what needs to be done to create a sustainable taxonomy.
