Let the members of the Committee for the Environment and Sustainable Development know that a strong toxics law and clear labelling of toxic product ingredients matter to you.

Thank you for taking action to let the members of the Committee for the Environment and Sustainable Development (ENVI) know that a strong toxics law and clear labelling of toxic product ingredients matter to you. Your direct phone call can really make a difference.

First:

● Introduce yourself as a concerned citizen.

● Let them know that you’re calling because they are a member of the ENVI committee charged with strengthening Canada’s main toxics law – the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA).

● Tell them why it’s important to you, your family and your community that a reformed CEPA includes action to label all harmful substances in the products we buy.

Suggested Talking Points:

● Ask them to fulfill the federal government’s overdue promise to label harmful substances in consumer products and uphold our right to know what is in the products we buy.

● Bill S-5, the CEPA reform bill, must include a legislated commitment to require strong, mandatory labelling of hazardous ingredients.

● Protecting our health and the environment means labelling all harmful substances, not just the ones most highly regulated under CEPA.

● To be effective, labelling requirements must be prioritized for classes of highly hazardous substances, whether or not the substance is listed as toxic under CEPA.

● Ask them to please strengthen Bill S-5 and let them know that now, more than ever, it is critical to protect human health and the environment.
