About The Backgrounder:
Claims that the Pathways carbon capture and storage (CCS) project could offset emissions from a proposed new oil pipeline are misleading and mathematically impossible. Using data from the federal government, this briefing shows that emissions from a one-million-barrel-per-day pipeline would far exceed what Pathways CCS could ever capture, even under optimistic assumptions. The analysis also highlights downstream emissions that CCS can not address, along with serious safety, economic and public cost risks associated with CCS.
