About The Submission:

Environmental Defence Canada, the David Suzuki Foundation, Climate Action Network Canada, and Oil Change International have raised concerns about Export Development Canada’s (EDC) consideration of financing the Cedar LNG project. This move contradicts Canada’s 2021 commitment to end domestic public financing for fossil fuels, with a policy expected by fall 2024. The Cedar LNG project, classified as having significant adverse environmental effects, is inconsistent with Canada’s climate commitments, including the Paris Agreement. Additionally, the project relies heavily on carbon offsets and could result in increased methane emissions, undermining Canada’s climate goals. These organizations urge decision-makers to reject the financing proposal to align with national and international climate commitments.
