About The Backgrounder:

This backgrounder clears up some misconceptions about Ontario’s electricity prices and shows that renewable energy – wind, solar and bioenergy – accounts for a relatively small part of residential electricity bills.

The backgrounder contains new analysis commissioned by Environmental Defence that breaks down the different factors contributing to the cost of electricity in Ontario, places these prices in context with other jurisdictions, looks at the benefits of the province’s coal phase-out, and highlights that costs for wind and solar power are expected to continue falling while the price of nuclear power will rise.
