About The Backgrounder:
This submission is Environmental Defence Canada’s response to the federal government’s consultation on strengthening industrial carbon pricing systems in Canada, outlining what is needed to ensure carbon markets actually drive emissions reductions. With key climate policies rolled back or weakened, a strong industrial carbon pricing system is now one of the most important tools Canada has to hold big polluters accountable and stay aligned with its climate commitments. When designed properly, carbon pricing is a proven, cost-effective way to cut pollution, spur clean investment, and protect communities from escalating costs of climate change.
