The Problem

Ontario has one of the worst collection rates for used plastic bottles in the country. Fewer than half of all non-alcoholic beverage containers are collected and recycled in Ontario every year, a much lower rate than in provinces with effective deposit return. Every year, over 1.7 billion plastic bottles are wasted in landfills, burned in incinerators, or littered in nature.

The Solution

In Ontario, we’re working to get a comprehensive deposit return program for all beverage containers. A comprehensive program would increase recycling rates and keep empties out of landfills and our environment.
