Big Oil’s Big Year:

A new report by Environmental Defence, Big Oil’s Big Year: A Summary of Big Oil’s 2023 Federal Lobbying, reveals that oil and gas companies held at least 1,255 lobby meetings with the federal government in 2023.

“Oil and gas companies delay and weaken crucial climate policies through relentless lobbying,” says Emilia Belliveau, Energy Transition Program Manager at Environmental Defence. “The public needs to see the extent of the industry’s access to government officials.”

The report highlights that major players like Suncor, Pembina Pipeline Corp, Cenovus, Imperial Oil, and Enbridge were the most active, frequently targeting ministries responsible for climate policy.
