Toronto, Ont. – This morning, Environmental Defence will present its objections to Bill 132 to the Standing Committee on General Government. Environmental Defence will focus on Schedules 9 and 16 of Bill 132 and on the Bill’s potential impacts to weaken the environmental penalties framework, reduce the ability of municipalities to manage aggregate operations and protect groundwater, and undermine restrictions on the use of bee-killing neonicotinoid insecticides.
In addition, Environmental Defence will raise concerns with the omnibus nature of this Bill and the speed at which it is moving through the legislative process, which severely curtails the opportunities for public consultation.
