Mississauga, Ont. – On October 22 and 29, Mississauga residents are invited to drop off empty plastic pop, juice, and water bottles for recycling at the Lions Farmers Market to get some extra change in return. Residents that participate will earn 10 cents for every bottle they bring.

The event is part of Environmental Defence’s Cash it! Don’t trash it campaign in support of a deposit return program for plastic bottles in Ontario. Deposit return programs, like what Ontario already has for wine and beer bottles, are a proven way to increase recycling rates. Currently, despite the Blue Box program, 1.5 billion plastic bottles are littered or end up in the environment in the province every year.
