Statement by Environmental Defence’s Executive Director, Tim Gray, on the retirement of Minister Glen Murray, and the appointment of Minister Chris Ballard as Ontario’s Minister of the Environment and Climate Change
Toronto, Ont. – We would like to welcome newly appointed Minister Chris Ballard as Ontario’s new Minister of the Environment and Climate Change. We look forward to working with him to implement Ontario’s Climate Change Action Plan and in continuing Ontario’s leadership on climate change. His experience as the Minister of Housing, and also as an Aurora city councillor, makes him very aware of the urgency of the climate issue and also of the incredible economic opportunities associated with transforming Ontario’s economy to an efficient, low carbon future.
We would also like to thank the outgoing Minister Glen Murray for his tireless dedication to making Ontario a global climate change leader. Minister Murray worked every day to secure the most comprehensive Climate Change Action Plan possible and was a consummate voice for climate action in Ontario, Canada and internationally. We will miss working with him in government, but welcome him as a new colleague as the executive director of the Pembina Institute.
