Ottawa, ON – The federal budget to be tabled today may contain important spending initiatives on environmental priorities, including public transit, green infrastructure, protecting the Great Lakes, phasing out fossil fuel subsidies, and reducing Canadians’ exposure to toxic chemicals.

Environmental Defence spokespeople are available to comment today on budget 2016.

During the election campaign and as government, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and members of his cabinet made a number of commitments on the environment, including spending measures. Today’s budget will give a strong indication of the seriousness of the federal government’s environmental agenda and its ambition in putting Canada on course to tackle climate change and deliver greater environmental protection.
