California gives Cadmium the Boot

Remember last month when we told you the good news about cadmium restrictions in Canada? Yep, we shouldn't have to worry about our kids being exposed to it in jewelry anymore.

Well, we're full of good news, and we're happy to report that California is kicking cadmium out of jewelry for kids and adults, as of 2012. Being the big gun that it is, California's restriction of this nasty carcinogen should impact the limits for the whole country. Kudos to California for this big step, and to Health Canada for taking leadership on our health and safety.

Toxic hair treatments might give people the perfect 'do, but at what cost?
Tale of a Toxic Hair Treatment
Which hair straightening treatment has been known to cause burning eyes and nose, hair to fall out, and breathing problems? If you guessed Brazilian Blowout, you're right!

Luckily, Health Canada has had its eye on this and other toxic hair treatments for some time. It looks like the FDA is following suit. They recently issued a warning letter to Brazilian Blowout, calling the product "adulterated" and "misbranded". Here's hoping these products find their way off the market and that this whole toxic mess is soon behind us. In the meantime, we recommend steering clear of toxic treatments, or going natural altogether.
