Rachel Potter
Toxics Program Coordinator
ext. 248

Rachel’s roots are in Nova Scotia. As a Maritimer, she is innately obsessed with the ocean, particularly those waters where belugas can be found. Rachel’s environmental work started in Grade 2 when she initiated a petition to stop the pollution of the Halifax Harbour from raw sewage discharge, and she hasn’t looked back since. Today Rachel is particularly interested in how environmental pollutants disproportionately affect low-income communities. In her role as Research Assistant for Rick Smith and Bruce Lourie’s next book, Rachel researches how environmental toxins affect us all, and how we can get them out of our bodies and our lives. She hopes her research at Environmental Defence will jump-start an Erin Brockovich-like career.
