SPECIAL PROVINCIAL ELECTION EDITION!
NEWS AND UPDATES
Where do the parties stand on the Greenbelt and the environment?
Check out a platform comparison on environmental issues based on questionnaires given to the parties and/or information from party platform materials. The comparison was put together by The Green Prosperity Initiative, a combined effort of 19 Ontario environmental organizations. Questions asked include whether the parties support the expansion of the Greenbelt, as well as local food procurement. Answers can be found here.

A new (and very young) advocate for the environment!
This election it’s time to get pantsuit serious about the environment, and the Greenbelt! Meet Penelope, an 8-year old ‘candidate’ touring Ontario with Environmental Defence, asking the public to think about her future when they vote on October 6th. Penelope is campaigning for clean air and water, greener energy and the Greenbelt (because she loves its peaches, radishes and parks among other things). Visit her website penelope4ontario to check out her videos, take her pledge and follow her adventures on the campaign trail. |

The Oak Ridges Moraine: Protected or Neglected?
Earthroots, Save the Oak Ridges Moraine (STORM), and Ontario Nature are pleased to announce, on the 10th anniversary of the Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Act, the launch of the Moraine Can't Wait campaign. The Moraine Can't Wait campaign is designed to bring attention to the serious issues confronting the Moraine that can't wait to be addressed at the 2015 review of the Conservation Plan. These include commercial fill operations, water-taking, infrastructure, transitional applications and barriers to sustainable livelihoods. Visit www.morainecantwait.ca for more information about the issues and to send a letter or fax to party leaders and candidates about the Moraine! |
