Global warming isn't the only environmental problem made worse by the break-neck expansion of the tar sands. Massive toxic waste lakes, toxic air andwater pollution, habitat and speciesdestruction are all legacies of the enormous operations in northern Alberta.

This means putting a wrench in the plans of the industry to massively expand over the next decade, and cleaning up the open pit mines and toxic waste lakes that are already there.
