We’ve compiled a few examples of Canada’s green workplaces. Take a look at these for some ideas and tips.
As a provider of fish products it is important that a company source high quality ingredients from sustainable and natural sources. Ascenta helps keep our consumption of fish products in the sustainable realm by providing fish oils derived from sustainably harvested wild stocks that are closely regulated and monitored by government authorities. It is important to diversify fish catches to avoid putting pressure on any one resource, and Ascenta does just that. They also enforce strict policies against the use of unsustainable omega-3 sources, specifically no use of shark, krill, tuna or cod.
“Ascenta works hard to maintain a sustainable and green workplace environment for staff. Offering incentives for more sustainable transportation choices to and from work makes the quality of life better for employees, while reducing their environmental impact.”- Marc St-Onge, President and Founder of Ascenta
It is important to incorporate sustainability options into products and services for consumers. Sears is reducing customer energy bills and creating healthier homes through low-energy appliances, and energy reduction tools and programs such as Cost and Carbon Calculator and Home Energy Tune-Up. Sears promotes low-flow appliances to reduce water consumption in Canadian households, and shows a preference to purchase organic products and products made from renewable resources. Sears encourages vendors to reduce or eliminate their use of PVC in merchandise and packaging.
“As one of Canada’s largest retailers, Sears plays an important role in promoting sustainability and energy reduction within our company and to our customers. Sears mirrors our emphasis on offering ENERGY STAR appliances to customers with energy efficient retrofits and practices in our stores across Canada.” - Katie Harper, Manager of Sustainable Supply Chain at Sears Canada.
Xerox strives to create the most sustainable paper and office products available. By offering green products for the workplace, Xerox helps make a greener workplace accessible to everyone.
“Xerox committed to environmental sustainability long before it was popular. We all have a responsibility to help protect our planet, to create a healthier environment for all and ensure an abundant future for our children – it is a responsibility that is close to our heart as a company, and at the very heart of our company's values.”- Emechete Onuoha, Vice President of Citizenship and Government Affairs at Xerox Canada
