We’re working with local community members that want to protect natural areas and help grow Ontario’s Greenbelt.

Through our Greenbelt Action Fund, community members can apply for $1,000 to $5,000 in support of a local initiative dedicated to promoting increased protection of natural areas in and around Ontario’s world renowned Greenbelt.

Priority will be given to activities that support protecting and growing the Greenbelt, curbing urban sprawl, protecting natural areas, and the promotion of smart, efficient urban growth.

Current and completed group partners:

  • AWARE Simcoe ($2,500)
  • Wellington Water Watchers ($2,000)
  • Sustainable Brant ($3,000)

Examples of eligible activities include:

Hosting a workshop in your community to raise awareness about the benefits of Ontario’s Greenbelt;
Organizing a workshop about local threats to the Greenbelt, such as the proposed GTA West mega-highway;
Organizing a panel in your community about smart growth vs sprawl;
Holding a community meeting in order to engage local residents on local Greenbelt issues;
Information distribution, such as developing a brochure about why grow the Greenbelt in your local community.

Eligible applicants

  • Not-for-profit organizations
  • Volunteer-based organizations or community groups
  • Groups or individuals over 18 years old
