Environmental Defence in the news

Give your loved ones greener gifts this year with our Gifts for the Future, and our holiday shopping series.
Don't Give Naughty Gifts to Nice People!

Looking for some help with your holiday shopping? We're here to help. Instead of giving your friend, sister, or boss another sweater this year, why not give them a gift to defend the environment?

Sure, our Gifts for the Future, from expanding the Greenbelt by a kilometre, to testing products for toxic chemicals, to promoting clean, green energy, are unique and thoughtful of gifts. But, they'll also support Environmental Defence's continuous work in ensuring we pass along a greener, healthier and more prosperous world to our children. Nothing says "I love you," "you're a great boss," or "thanks for walking my dog" like a greener future does!

AND, if you need tips for the rest of your shopping, keep an eye on our blog over the next month for our holiday shopping series. We'll also be hosting a twitter party where you can ask our green shopping experts questions about your list. Stay tuned to our facebook and twitter for more details.
Journalism Competition! Tell Litter Bugs to Bug Off
We've got a problem with litter bugs. But we’re not ones to sit back and let a problem get in our way. And, we suspect, neither are you - we need the help of your 12–18 year old kids, friends, and students! Please share our Litter Less competition website and video as we search for creative solutions to Canada’s litter problem. Participants will record their challenges and solutions in print, photography and/or film to win some nifty prizes and make the world a "litter less" place.

Registration closes on December 23, 2011. So, will you help us solve this one? The journey starts now! For more details, visit youngreporters.ca/litterless.

A Keystone XL protest in Washington before the decision to delay was announced.
An XL Win!

On November 11, Obama put the brakes on the proposed Keystone XL tar sands pipeline. It will undergo a re-routing review, and new scrutiny over its climate impact. This marks a big departure from business as usual. It is far less likely that the pipeline will ever get built now. And it shows just what can happen when we truly stand up for a different future.

Looking forward, the Keystone victory creates the momentum we need to push back against the next glaring tar sands pipeline proposal - Enbridge's Northern Gateway. Stay tuned!
