4 Billion Litres a Year: Tar Sands’ Toxic Leakage

The latest Tar Sands report published by Environmental Defence highlights the tailings ponds leaking legacy.

Using industry data, the report finds that over four billion litres of contaminated tailings water from Tar Sands operations leak into the groundwater every year. New projects could expand this number to more than 25 billion litres within a decade.
