Last week, we held a contest to give away two tickets to the Greenbelt Harvest Picnic in Dundas, ON. As part of the contest, we asked you to share why you love Ontario’s Greenbelt. And share you did!
We received so many great entries that we decided to share them with everyone. Here are some of our favourites:
“I love the Greenbelt because of the peace, joy and fabulous exercise benefits I've received on its hiking and biking trails!” – Cathy Sobocan (contest winner)
“Who doesn't love the Greenbelt? It's a reflection of Ontarians' desire for a sustainable present and a continuous future.” – Hannah Shim
“I love the Greenbelt as a place to escape the craziness of the concrete jungles. To have natural spaces, such as the Escarpment, ability to buy fresh vegetables and pick fresh fruit. Breathe fresh air.” – John Saunders
“I love the Greenbelt because whenever I feel trapped by city life, I know that the Greenbelt will easily replenish my ‘get-back-to-nature’ needs.” – Brian Wall
“I love the commitment to eco-responsibility, local food and local farmers and generating greater awareness around an issue that is critical to all of us for long-term health and TRUE wellness. “ – Lara Marjerrison
For those of you unfamiliar with Ontario’s Greenbelt, it is 1.8 million acres of protected green-space and farmland across Southern Ontario. It provides recreational opportunities and supports local food production. And, most importantly, it helps curb unsustainable development happening across the Greater Toronto Area. Poorly planned development makes traffic worse, threatens fragile ecosystems and waterways, and contributes to global warming.
