Helping people understand the green economy and green jobs is worth it.

As a green jobs activist I am often asked if working to raise workers’ level of understanding of the green economy and green jobs is worth the effort. The answer: Yes.

The other day, I was in the Steelworkers Centre in Hamilton when a worker who volunteers there came in with a small town newspaper he had picked up when camping. He had marked several stories about the “hazards” of wind turbines and the “wasteful” Green Energy Act. He then proceeded to debunk them.

“These farmers are worried wind towers are going to screw up their GPS. How?? Is the wind going to bounce around satellites in space? This is BS”, he said.

And he was just as sure of himself on the criticism of the Green Energy Act. “They’re saying that if I’m against coal plants, I’m against wood burning stoves??? And the green act isn’t working? How come the few good jobs around here are building the stuff?”

Some days it pays to get up in the morning.

Wind Turbine Placements.

says:

Perhaps there should be some thought go into where the placement of wind turbines should be. With most of the High Power line towers being above the tree canopy perhaps it should be proposed to put in Vertical Wind Turbines atop of each tower (weight permitting). With the ability to put the generator itself on the ground and not on the actual tower there would not be so much weight on the tower itself. If each tower had the ability to have 100K or more generator on it, I think that would be able to produce a vast amount of energy for every country that utilizes the high voltage towers, and creates no more environmental impact than what the current towers have created!
