Swimming may seem like the obvious thing to do at the beach, but do you need convincing to take the plunge? If you are concerned about water quality, than a Blue Flag beach is the place for you! To be awarded the Blue Flag, beaches must meet national and provincial water quality standards at least 80% the time – and Canada’s standards are among the strictest in the world. Sure, other beaches have their water tested, but they give no indication of how consistent their water quality is. Beaches apply for a Blue Flag every year, so they have to prove that their water is clean before they receive a flag. Find your nearest Blue Flag beach to see the latest water quality results:

Blue Flag beaches are also a safe place to bring the family. They are required to provide safety equipment 24/7 and many are lifeguarded as well. Signage is required to indicate the location of hazards like rip tides and direct people to the safe areas for swimming.

So next time you are at the beach, take a break from sun worship and pay reverence to the water!
