Growth Plan marks five years

The goal of the Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe is to help build more sustainable communities. Specifically, it aims to revitalize downtowns; create communities that offer more options for living and working; provide more housing options; curb sprawl and protect farmland and green spaces and; reduce traffic gridlock by improving transportation options. 2011 marks the fifth anniversary of the Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe. The Ministry of Infrastructure has posted an overview of the Growth Plan’s progress five years into its 25-year outlook. It can be found here.

More money for farmers and local food!

A second wave of funding from the Greenbelt Fund was announced last week in Guelph. The money, distributed by the Greenbelt’s Broader Public Sector Investment Fund program, is to supply more Ontario-grown food to Ontario institutions such as daycares, schools, hospitals, and long-term care facilities. This grant will expand the bounty of local foods provided to 99 public institutions spread out over six municipalities, including three high schools, five daycare centres, three health care facilities, and one university.
