Toronto, ON – Today’s announcement that the Minister of National Revenue has appointed a five person advisory panel to develop new rules for charities is welcome and we fully expect the panel will deliver recommendations consistent with the government’s mandate letter commitments to “allow charities to do their work on behalf of Canadians free from political harassment” and enshrine these changes in “a new legislative framework” to protect charities in the long-term.
However, charities audited under the previous government for political activities continue to be audited. The federal government promised this harassment would stop and it has not. This must end while new rules are developed and put in place.
