Environmental Defence delivered our first Toxic Nation petition to Environment Minister John Baird today. The petition calls on the federal government to strengthen the regulation of toxic chemicals. Nearly 4,500 Canadians signed the petition expressing their concern about the potential harmful health effects of daily exposure to toxic chemicals.

The petition calls on the federal government to strengthen Canada’s national pollution law by:
(1)    setting aggressive timelines for the virtual elimination of toxic chemicals;
(2)    making industry accountable for its chemicals;
(3)    regulating toxic chemicals in consumer products; and
(4)    reducing pollution in the Great Lakes basin.
